On Tuesday night, I took a couple of minutes of my favorite television – The Big Idea. Hosted by Donny Deutsch, a long time advertising executive, the idea is an excellent source for obtaining advice from a wide range of daily business.
Tuesday’s topic was how to make your company a household name. Included in the panel were professionals of public relations and advertising. Donny always eager to create a little controversy (one reason why the show is so funny), so I was not surprised when he presented the following question to his guests: If you are a business owner with a limited budget and can choose only one area to focus on, could you focus on advertising or public relations? Surely, I blurted my answer. Ask this question at random to a group of business owners and it is likely that many will say there is little difference between the two. But the truth is that these industries are quite different, especially when it comes to printing.
