“The vast majority of small business owners do not think,” I think we can consider this statement as a sentence. But why is it so? As far as I am aware, the reason for this derives from two aspects: First, the lack of time that each owner facing small businesses, which exists mainly because of the centrality of the small business owner in the daily management tasks that are essential for the maintenance of small business. Secondly, skills, or lack of skills in order to establish a thorough strategic planning process to be developed in the strategic plan that will provide small business goals and objectives and the resources needed to achieve those goals. Such skills are not as common, even for senior executives of large companies, but unlike the small business owners by senior executives of large companies have access to professionals in the field of strategic planning and resource requirements to recruit, and this is what makes all the difference.

Having said all this, several issues must be the answer to all owners of small businesses doomed to lag behind their colleagues with regard to business strategic planning? Is there anything the employer can do little to reduce the gap? And if there is, what are the benefits for the small businessman?

Small business owners do not have the resources to close the gap with large firms in relation to strategic planning process and implementation. But frankly I do not think we should put his or her time or money in the elusive search for this gap. What small business owners can and should do is understand that a small business is big business with respect to their abilities and needs with the sole exception to this is to employ fewer workers. If this understanding into a common knowledge to small business owners, it is quite obvious that he or she should take another approach to strategic planning. The idea of strategic planning in small business should not enter into a rigidly dictated by a formula step by step what small business should do and how the need to act in every possible situation, it opens a new set of alternatives to participating in some type of strategic planning from which the owner and their business will be the main beneficiaries. The benefits for small business from engaging in any type of strategic planning could be as follows: Understanding the small business owner how he sees the goals of your small business to today and what future plans. Definition of resources required to achieve those goals and plans. Knowing what the risks are and to try to implement their plans and future.

“Visionary companies that set out goals that are directly related to its mission and vision. They communicate their vision statement and vision based on the objectives to clients and employees. They have the strategic and daily / weekly / monthly activities to achieve their goals and, over a period of time, achieve your vision. It is in this sense that a company can control its own destiny, instead of letting external forces determine the direction of a company. “A review regularly by management in their strategic planning of the actions you will know if you have chosen the right strategic activities to its business. Furthermore, it can ensure that strategic planning activities that it has decided to implement all are in support of its mission and vision.
